THE BEAR BROOK QUARRY

The George B. Dorr quarries, also known as the Bear Brook Quarries, are not too hard to locate.  Drive along the one way section of the Park Loop Road, and park at the pull over just beyond the beaver pond, on the left hand side of the road where the road turns the corner.  This pull over is just past the Bear Brook Trail, also known as the Champlain North Ridge Trail.
Within several feet of that pull over is a worn path that leads down the banking which takes you to the area of the Dorr Quarries.  I don't have much information on these quarries, but they are named in a few old newspaper articles as belonging to Mr. Dorr, with one article stating they are not far from his bike path.
I have poked around them a number of times and spotted porcupine in that area.  From some areas of the quarries you can see the Schooner Head Road through the tree's.
